“Interest in ‘Remote Jobs’ used to grow steadily. Now it’s following the Omicron surge.”
COVID and Remote Job Search Trends
Google searches for “Remote Jobs” had been steadily growing since the start of the pandemic. We decided to take a look at how those search trends lined up with the pandemic as a whole.
We pulled data from the CDC as far back as they were tracking it and compared it with Google search trend data for the same period.
It’s important to note that the Google data is showing how popular that search term is relative to itself during that time period. So here, a score of 100 indicates when that search was most popular during the time period.
While i can’t say I’m terribly surprised by the increase in interest for these searches, this does indicate that the search for remote work is showing no signs of slowing down, even as cities and organizations start considering lifting mask mandates or considering a return to the office. It might not be best to assume people are ready to come back to the office, even if the leadership team is eager to do so. Clearly there are still a lot of people out there looking for remote work right now.
